Leading by Example — do what you want those in your group to do
Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood. — Acts 20:28
When shepherds shepherd shepherds, shepherds will better shepherd the sheep. When shepherds don’t shepherd shepherds, shepherds probably won’t shepherd the sheep.
When our most spiritual men discuss deep and vital issues with each other in a loving way, the congregation will search them out to talk about their vital, painful, and challenging issues.
If the designated leadership group doesn’t discuss important issues that affect their relationship with each other, why would individual members of the congregation bring their hopes and hurts to them?
When overseers oversee overseers, overseers will better oversee the flock. If overseers don’t oversee overseers, oversees probably won’t adequately oversee the flock.
When a group of leaders hold themselves accountable to grow and exemplify Christ-like character and life, they’ll be able to lead the flock in Christian growth by example and encouragement.
Always good leadership points! That last point summarizes it all “command or example?”
There are too many businessmen trying to be elders & not enough shepherds striving to lead. I’ve met both and the true shepherds are closer to Jesus example.
